The Mountain Bikers eMTB
Living in uncharted territory, the Relay is a lightweight, long travel, modular mountain bike.
We have always wanted a bike that could provide both an electric and non-electric experience in one chassis. The Relay is light, efficient, and quiet. This provides a more intuitive and natural feel on trail than many would expect from an eMTB. The Relay is here and ready to meet all of your mountain biking needs. Going for a rip with friends on eMTB's? Power it up and head out. Going for a rip with some friends on mountain bikes? Simply remove the battery and hit the trail with no tools required. The Relay does it all.
Two bikes in one
The Relay can be ridden as an ebike or a non-powered bike by simple removing the battery. The drive unit has such minimal drag that when your ride it powered off and without the battery, you'll quickly forget you still have a motor in your frame. During our development process we tested it without the battery and found very little difference even with the small amount of added weight from the motor that stays low and centred. This aspect of the Relay opens up avenues that many haven't addressed before. It fills the desires of a rider looking for the ebike experience, while also allowing riders to remove the battery to pedal with friends not on ebikes, shuttle, ride the bike part or ride in areas not accessible to ebikes. You can quickly open the tool free battery door, remove the battery from the frame and let your legs do the rest. We think many riders are currently faced with the decision to purchase either an ebike or a non-powered bike, not both and the Relay will be their answer.
Fazua Ride60 motor
The Fazua Ride60 system has 60Nm or torque and 450W peak power with virtually no drag. This creates a very efficient system that punches far above what its numbers would suggest. With the smooth power delivery and extremely quiet motor, the Relay is one of the most intuitive and natural feeling ebikes pushing the ride experience closer to that of a non-powered bike.
Fazua Energy 430Wh battery
The 430Wh battery is easily swappable and provides range similar to what we are finding on larger battery, higher power ebikes. An external range extender will be available in the future.
Fazua ring controller
The simple and ergonomic ring controller has three ways of movement, up, down and inward. Pushing up increases the power level, while pushing inward will activate walk mode. Additionally, holing the controller up will activate boost mode, giving you peak power output for roughly ten seconds of boost.
FAZUA RIDE60 APP
The Fazua Ride60 app pairs to the Relay via bluetooth technology. The Relay comes equipped with our well thought out profile, but you are able to fully customize your settings in all assistance modes. With Max Power and Support Relation you are able to set the maximum mechanical power output and torque in each mode. Support Relation allows you to adjust how much assistance you are given in relation to how much force you apply to the pedals.
Ramp Up allows you to adjust how responsive the system delivers the assistance in each mode. Whether you're an experienced rider looking for the most responsive and powerful setup, or someone who values more distance out of your rides, the app provides a comprehensive array of adjustments to tune your ride to your liking.
LED Hub
The simple interface on the top tube consists of 5 led lights to give you an indication of power mode, battery life and a connection port for your phone or other device. Out of the box the relay has three power modes, breeze, river and rocket. breeze mode provides enough assistance to well overcome the additional weight of the bike and is very usable in many situations where you are not trying to go much faster than normal biking pace. River mode is pre-set to match the amount of energy you are delivering to the pedals, providing a natural feel that can deliver across the range of power. rocket mode provides full system power to help tackle the steepest and most challenging terrain.
LIGHTWEIGHT AND PURPOSE BUILT
Starting at 42.5lb/19.27 kg with the battery and 37.5lb/17.01kg without the battery, every Relay is purpose built with components to be ridden hard.
RELAY VS RELAY PNW
The Relay and Relay PNW share the same frame. The lower shock flip chip adjusts the geometry to compensate for a 27.5" or 29" rear wheel. Both Relay and Relay PNW have the ability to be run at 160 or 170mm travel front and rear, dual 29 or mixed wheel. Riders can choose the Relay with dual 29 and 160mm travel for a more lightweight, trail bike feel, or chase their burly trail dreams with the heavy hitting Relay PNW with 170mm travel and mixed wheels. The Relay is purpose built to be ridden hard and comes equipped with a component spec for doing so. Making both the Relay and Relay PNW two of the lighter, heavy hitting eMTBs on the market.

Ready to ride
Every bike from Start Fitness is fully checked & assembled before despatch and will arrive, almost, ready to ride. Each bike is assembled by one of our CyTech accredited mechanics and then packed into one of our custom boxes.
*This process has a lead time of 5-7 working days.
Unfortunately during peak times this may be slightly delayed. We will however, aim to despatch your bike as quickly as possible. Minimal assembly, with basic tools, is required before you can ride. Assembly tools are not usually included.
Making sure you are home
Once fully checked and boxed, we will contact you to arrange a suitable delivery date when you will be home to take delivery. Our bikes are despatched with a premium delivery service which usually delivers next working day (excludes weekends & bank holidays) for mainland UK orders, it may take slightly longer for some areas, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and outlying Scottish areas. European bike deliveries usually take approximately one week.
Taking Delivery
Any mechanical or cosmetic issues need to be reported to us within one week of the delivery date. If you do not plan on using the bike straight away, we advise that you remove it from the box and check it over ASAP as we cannot be responsible for any reported issues (other than standard warranty issues) later than one week from the date that the bicycle was delivered.
First Service
After a few weeks of riding (we recommend around 6-8 weeks, regardless of how much the bike has been used), a new bike will need a service to make final adjustments and to re-check all nuts and bolts. This is necessary as the bike goes through a ‘bedding in’ phase, after which, final adjustment may be necessary. We recommend that this is carried out by a CyTech qualified mechanic.
It is important to have these checks carried out to prevent any avoidable problems which may not be covered by warranty and to ensure the smooth running of your bicycle. If you’re local to us, we’re able to offer this first service free of charge* at our Newcastle store (NE1 6JE). You’ll just need to call our workshop on 0191 917 3825 to book your service in, and don’t forget to bring your proof of purchase when you drop the bike off with us.
If you’ve had the bike delivered, it will be your responsibility to ensure a first service is carried out at a trusted bike shop local to you, preferably by a Cytech certified mechanic. Start Fitness are unfortunately not able to cover any costs associated with this service if carried out by another store.
*Please note that this complimentary check-over does not include any labour to replace worn parts or to fit new accessories. All bikes should be delivered to us in a clean and serviceable condition, or a £15 cleaning charge will be payable.
Bike Servicing
Bicycles need to be serviced regularly, as a guideline we would advise on at least one full service per year and/or a standard service twice a year. If the bike is used regularly in adverse conditions, more regular servicing may be required.
