Exactly what I needed

Went with the ADV 12 after returning the Skin 8. Overall it has slightly better quality and utility - e.g. more pockets up front and round back.

Great comfortable back. Can't fault it

Near perfect, with tiny niggles plus size advice!

When buying things I tend to read virtually every review I can find, then get really torn between options and frustrated with people that just regurgitate the press release and repeat cliches and stereotypes, so here is an honest review from a normal member of the public:

Stats; I'm not a novice runner, but no means an expert, my long runs are currently 10 - 12 milers and I'm looking to increase distance and train for a marathon or similar next year on trail. I also go on few adventurous fast hikes where I might want a bit more stuff but not the bulk of a full backpack.

I am a gnat's nacker under 6ft, 78 kilos, 39 inch chest, 33 inch waste with a bit of muscle (definitely not a rakish seasoned runner!). Consequently I am smack in between sizes for virtually everything, but majority M for sportswear.

FIT: I went to a shop, tried a medium in this pack and it just felt restrictive and tight around my back and that was completely empty, as these things fill out with kit they get tighter anyway so I went for a large. with a bit of kit and full water bottles it's very nearly perfect, virtually no bounce, it's a tad lighter/looser around my shoulders but doesnt move or rub, hopefully with full kit it will be snugger still.

When the bottles empty I needed to tighten the central drawstring a bit so there isnt the biggest gap at this point but this suits me as the bottles are more central and I dont hit them with my arm action.

I would say something between M and L would be perfect, but I'd rather take the non-restrictive L size, if you're of similar dimensions but have a lighter frame I'd recommend the M.

COMFORT: this is super lightweight and comfortable at least up to the 12 mile distance I've been and I cant see that changing (it's massively popular with the 100 mile + ultra crew after all). There was a minor irritation with a seam on the right shoulder but suspect this will disappear. Absolutely no chafe or rub anywhere after 2 hours with a lightweight t shirt underneath.

POCKETs: Dont even worry about it, loads of options, huge space, the zipped pockets get loads in but my phone (iPhone SE) which isnt the biggest was snug and didnt bounce at all.

USABILITY: Really easy to reach into virtually all pockets on the move bar the obvious central back ones, the only annoyance was the little waste pocket which I got caught up in every time I tried to get food out, that's going to be snipped out me thinks.

The drawstring front fastening is a tad fiddly but once hooked up is a delight, so comfortable, easily adjustable on the move and secures the pack down no issues. Absolutely no restriction either which was a concern and something I got when tightening other packs up.

The bottles that come with it are also superb, as the pressure of the pocket squeezes them the water comes out so easily when you go to take a drink, you dont have to suck at all which is great for a quick sip on the run. They fit really easily in the pockets and the bungee loops keep them in place.

VERSATILITY and 5L v 12L: this is going to be a personal choice but IMO there is no issue/overkill with the 12L as the bungee cord cinches the back pockets down brilliantly, I only had a jumper in the back and didnt feel it at all. Honestly I think the only reason youd get the 5 is either to save £30 or because you never plan on going more than 2 hours. You get so much stuff in the12L and I didnt feel I could get enough in the 5L as I dont have super technical lightweight kit ATM.

Cant comment on durability, I've heard of a few fraying seams which I can understand but generally the pack feels well put together, especially considering it's lightness and complexity.
