Let's get straight to the point, these are MEGA-10/10 trainers for runners!!! Especially if-like me-you suffer from Achilles problems.

I Have been doing cross country running since early 2006. I Have gone through lots of different trainers & makes. Some were great but then discontinued so I had to change when they wore out. Some were bad & changed them immediately. Around 2020 I started using LA Sportivia Bushido II & later III trainers, I have 5 or 6 pairs all colours. Superb trail running trainer once you've broken them in (which would take almost 100 miles of running!!!) However I started to get serious Achilles problems in my right Achilles. Sometimes I could manage it, sometimes I'd need a few weeks off (the last year I have been running 14k three times a week). I Have also started getting calf strains and more recently a very, very painful groin strain on my left side. I Have been running through the pain with the aid of strong painkillers & Volterol before hand but about a month ago I got really serious Achilles pain this time on my left side which totally stopped my running.

So I decided to do some research online, I discovered a youtube video by 'Spark Healthy Runner' (AKA Dr Duane Scotti) called ''Best Running Shoes for Achilles Tendonitis'' which to be honest was a massive eye opener! Turns out I have 'Insertional Achilles Tendonitis' on the right leg (and have the lump to prove it) and the flat LA Sportivia's I have been running in have been the cause of the problem. The video mentioned the 'Mizuno Wave Rider' as being a popular trainer having a heel to toe drop of 12mm so are ideal for people who suffer with Achilles problems. So I did an internet search, found a pair on 'Start Fitness' ordered & had them delivered a day later. Today I went out in them just to do around a 12k walk to break them in a bit. They felt so comfortable that I ended up doing a 10k run with virtually no Achilles pain whatsoever!!! To say they are a revelation is an understatement!!! The last time I went on a run was 10 days ago & honestly I could hardly walk after 5k I had to stop.

I Was very dubious about the comfort with such a thick sole as last year I tried running on a pair of Hokka Speedgoats & it felt like I was running on a bag of water!!! I Hated them. But the Muzuno Wave Rider Inspire 20 were brilliant, really, really comfy and despite them being brand new I go no cramp in my toes after around 8k like on other new trainers I have had previously. (Also about the Hokka Speedgoats, they only have a 5mm 'heel to toe' drop so not for people who suffer with Achilles problems. ) I Usually wear a UK 9 in normal trainers but have had to wear either UK 9.5, 9.5+in the LA's or even size UK 10 in some running trainers. I Bought a pair of these in UK 9.5. I Would say they are a touch on the bigger side compared to others but I felt no slipping or movement, my feet felt great in them & my running was really assured.

So in short after just one 10k run with very little running pain from both my Achilles & no after run pain I would highly recommend these trainers, they really are superb!!! So much so I've ordered a few more in different colours and a Gore Tex pair for winter.
