The Ransom. This Enduro Mountain Bike features 170mm of trail munchin', climb crushing, stage winning all day pinning mountain biking excellence.
The Tuned version comes equipped with a FOX 38 fork, our TwinLoc Suspension System, a SRAM Eagle AXS groupset and high-end Syncros components to help you get away with murder, regardless of your ability level.
EVO-LAP TECHNOLOGY
With the proper selection of materials, eighty percent of the work to create a frame is done. But the remaining twenty percent requires most of our efforts. For this reason, our choice of the most advanced carbon fibers in the market is followed by intensive use of specific tools, like FEA (finite element analysis) software, to map out the carbon lay-up.
ONE FRAME, TWO WHEEL SIZES
With our mountain bikes, we try to achieve ultimate versatility. These specific models can switch from 27.5" to 29" or from 24" to 26" wheels with nothing more than the flip of a chip. No need to change the fork, all you need to do is flip a shock mount chip, change your wheels and off you go. The flip chip allows us to maintain a similar BB height when switching from one wheel size to the other which is key to keeping handling similar for both wheel sizes.
FOX NUDE TR SHOCK
On several Ransom and Genius models, you'll find the all new FOX NUDE TR EVOL. What the TR allows you to do is to select what sort of progression you would like in Descend mode: more linear, or more progressive. By flipping the Ramp Adjust Lever, you can decide how your shock behaves while descending.
RANSOM CARBON CONSTRUCTION
While we always aim to have lightweight carbon bikes here at SCOTT, we never compromise frame strength when doing so. Taking into consideration the riding this bike is designed for, we have created our strongest carbon frame to date. Through clever layering and reinforcement in certain zones we obtain the stiffness wanted between the head tube and the rear wheel axle via a path following the downtube and the chainstays - we call this the stiffness backbone. The Ransom being a 1x only bike allowed us to optimize the width of the main pivot which is normally the weak point on this stiffness path.
Additionally, the Trunnion mount on the DT close to the BB allows us to obtain great stiffness at the bottom of the bike and lightweight construction up top for compliance and for having the center of gravity as low as possible.
RANSOM GEOMETRY
When designing the Ransom, speed was a topic that was always at the forefront of discussion. Naturally, the geometry of the bike was selected to accompany the type of riding it is intended for. With 170mm of travel, this unique 29er has a geometry that will get you to the top comfortably and then back down faster than ever before. Long, slack and stable at speed, this rig can tame any descent.
However, we didn't want to cut any corners with regards to seat angle or position. Where we live, big days involve plenty of climbing, and we think it's important that climbs can be as fun as the downs – proper climbing position is essential to that.
TWINLOC SUSPENSION SYSTEM
With TwinLoc, a rider can effectively control the complete frame, fork, and shock as a system. Why does this matter? A bike with 150mm of suspension travel, correctly set up, has more sag than a bike with 130mm. It's that extra travel that makes it more fun to ride and more capable on the descents, but the greater sag has an oversized effect on the bike's geometry and climbing performance. That's where TwinLoc matters.

Ready to ride
Every bike from Start Fitness is fully checked & assembled before despatch and will arrive, almost, ready to ride. Each bike is assembled by one of our CyTech accredited mechanics and then packed into one of our custom boxes.
*This process has a lead time of 2-4 working days.
Unfortunately during peak times this may be slightly delayed. We will however, aim to despatch your bike as quickly as possible. Minimal assembly, with basic tools, is required before you can ride. Assembly tools are not usually included.
Making sure you are home
Once fully checked and boxed, we will contact you to arrange a suitable delivery date when you will be home to take delivery. Our bikes are despatched with a premium delivery service which usually delivers next working day (excludes weekends & bank holidays) for mainland UK orders, it may take slightly longer for some areas, Northern Ireland, Channel Islands and outlying Scottish areas. European bike deliveries usually take approximately one week.
Taking Delivery
Any mechanical or cosmetic issues need to be reported to us within one week of the delivery date. If you do not plan on using the bike straight away, we advise that you remove it from the box and check it over ASAP as we cannot be responsible for any reported issues (other than standard warranty issues) later than one week from the date that the bicycle was delivered.
First Service
After a few weeks of riding (we recommend around 6-8 weeks, regardless of how much the bike has been used), a new bike will need a service to make final adjustments and to re-check all nuts and bolts. This is necessary as the bike goes through a ‘bedding in’ phase, after which, final adjustment may be necessary. We recommend that this is carried out by a CyTech qualified mechanic.
It is important to have these checks carried out to prevent any avoidable problems which may not be covered by warranty and to ensure the smooth running of your bicycle. If you’re local to us, we’re able to offer this first service free of charge* at our Newcastle store (NE1 6JE). You’ll just need to call our workshop on 0191 917 3825 to book your service in, and don’t forget to bring your proof of purchase when you drop the bike off with us.
If you’ve had the bike delivered, it will be your responsibility to ensure a first service is carried out at a trusted bike shop local to you, preferably by a Cytech certified mechanic. Start Fitness are unfortunately not able to cover any costs associated with this service if carried out by another store.
*Please note that this complimentary check-over does not include any labour to replace worn parts or to fit new accessories. All bikes should be delivered to us in a clean and serviceable condition, or a £15 cleaning charge will be payable.
Bike Servicing
Bicycles need to be serviced regularly, as a guideline we would advise on at least one full service per year and/or a standard service twice a year. If the bike is used regularly in adverse conditions, more regular servicing may be required.
